ZwareMetalen.com December 24, 2011 reviewer Dirk de Boer
Blame me, but I remember the debut of the Dutch metal band FeedForward "Barefoot & Naked" by singer Biejanka appearing naked on the album cover. Biejanka has emigrated to Finland and now Patrice handles the microphone on their second album "Upstream". And she does that more than well.
Like the debut "Upstream" is of high quality. The combination of progressive metal and female vocals works out fine. The song material is of high standard, the technical abilities undisputed and the choruses are catchy, so the songs which are quite long impress from head to tail. Without compromising the other band members there is again a leading role for the combination of guitar and keys, which remind me at times of the interplay of Karl Groom and Richard West from Threshold. Also Patrice deserves a compliment for her convincing vocals.
FeedForward makes an unusual combination of progressive metal, melodic metal and female vocals. Daring, because one could say that the band is dithering between two styles. To my opinion the meter points more to the metal approach and less to the bombastic (goth) metal so I can therefore recommend "Upstream" to metal fans who are not waiting for yet another Within Tempation, After Forever and Evanescence clone. A great adventurous metal disc produced in our own Holland.
