FeedForward - Barefoot & Naked

The Dutch Feedforward play their mix of progressive rock and melodic Metal since about 2002. Progressive rock in this case doesn’t mean that the four boys and one girl put a lot of breaks in their music (although they also have their shares, see "Run The Race") and Melodic Metal does not mean that they go for bombastic choirs, but that they make quite unconventional music without walking the paths most travelled. Even the voice of singer Biejanka eludes any categorization. Her clear and transparent voice gives the varied compositions their own special character. The tempos in Barefoot & Naked are clearly more rock orientated. For example, one hears in "Crossing The Line", where the journey leads to: relaxed rock songs with much melancholy and with very many details that are to be heard at each spin reveals the many facets of FeedForward. Also the melodies are beautifully arranged as can be heard in "Innocence" for example. Here you can also hear the harsh, but warm voice of drummer Pi.. A good cross-section of the music on FeedForwards Barefoot & Naked is "Silent": Initially still quite heavy, the piece varies along and there are lots of fragments in it. Some electronic parts are not my cup of tea and I think the instrumental "Moving" is very ... abstract.
Not an album that you should listen to when you’re depressed. But an album full of fine music, which certainly deserves a spin or two.
