FeedForward - Barefoot & Naked
|
Myspace can be a divine forum if you use it correctly and I myself have found a great deal there of which a portion has been reviewed here, and now is the time for another such a record. It is not entirely up-to-date as it has already been released a little more than a year ago but this is too damn good to be forgotten and this is music that belongs on this website.
Dutch band FeedForward comes from Holland, was formed in 2002 and previously released three demos which attracted some attention. The responses to these led to the band supporting Enchant and The Gathering among other things. With it got more eyes were set on Feed Forward and the popularity grew. This led to the band's debut album and considering it being a debut, it is a diamond. But let us not go too fast, "Barefoot & naked" can not be compared to any other record.
The album contains ten songs including the instrumental "Moving", which on its own is a musical masterpiece. In fact, the whole album is very, very good. The music can be defined as a mixture of progressive rock and melodic metal without any classical elements which feels liberating. It proves that it is possible to make neoprog in a modern and innovative way. With Biejanka the band has a world-class singer whose voice is reminiscent of Tracy Hitchings but with a little more power which is heard well on "143", one of the faster songs. When she goes down a few octaves in the song "Our sky (for one time)", one of the quietest songs with just a piano part played by Job, it sounds just as good. Variations and the fact that you never know what happens next is what I like and the trick is to encapsulate this in one song, and the way this is done in "Before I leave" makes me shout with joy.
It can only be concluded that FeedForward is a ready-made band that dares to go its own way without walking the path of various better-known compatriots. I really hope it will be a follow-up, because I am convinced that more people would like FeedForward if they just take the time to discover the music. On the band's homepage you can contact the band and if you want purchase a copy of "Barefoot & naked ". Speaking of which, also the cover belongs to the category “very good” and “very interesting” for the picture can certainly bring some associations that I leave it to each and every one to judge…but this is an album that is highly recommended.
